Veiby will fight for the JWRC title

Even though Italian Simone Tempestini has a firm grip of the lead in the FIA Junior World Rally Championship (JWRC), Ole Christian Veiby has by no means given up on bringing home the champion title.

Rally Corsica, which is the penultimate round of the JWRC, takes place this weekend. The 20-year-old from Norway is in second place and realizes that his toughest competitor, Simone Tempestini, has quite a lead with two events remaining. 37 points separates the two top JWRC drivers.

"I have not given up on my goal to become Junior World Champion, but it does not look too good right now. However, we cannot do anything other than to do our job and see where that leaves us in the end, said Ole, who, together with co-driver Stig Rune Skjærmoen, aims for victory at Rally Corsica.

The Norwegian guys drive a Citröen DS3 R3 and are very well aware of the fact that it will be a challenging rally on the beautiful island between France and Italy in the Mediterranean.

"Corner after corner, after corner, after corner - that is what awaits us. It is not without reason that this rally is called 'The Rally of 10 000 Corners'. And the stages are located up in the mountains with steep drops on the side of the road in some places. So this will also be pretty spectacular. But what makes the event particularly demanding, is the long stages. Half of the ten stages are over 50 km and an average stage is about 35 km. In many ways, they remind me of Rally Monte Carlo, but it is still more extreme in Corsica" said Ole.

Ole made his Corsica debut in very difficult conditions last year. This year, he hopes that the weather is a bit more on their side.

"The rain poured down during the first two days and it was terribly windy, so we were careful. But when the weather got better and it dried up, we were the fastest crew. I hope to be able to repeat that this year. Our taget is to win" he said.
